It was Oct. 2, 2002. Hurricane Lili was ripping through the northern Gulf of Mexico, gaining power as it swept toward Acadiana's coast. By bedtime — for those of us who could sleep — the next day seemed certain to bring with it a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 145 mph, maybe the worst storm in Louisiana's recorded history.
