New Orleans funk fore-bearers The Meters are among nominees for the 2013 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Other nominees this year include songwriter Randy Newman; bluesman Albert King; dance legends Donna Summer and Chic; electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk; groundbreaking rap groups N.W.A. and Public Enemy; girl group The Marvelettes; and rock icons the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joan Jett, Deep Purple, Rush, Procul Haram and Heart.
