Will Morning Call get to keep its lease?
Tensions are high in the New Orleans beignet community. Morning Call just lost a location it’s occupied since 2012 — in City Park’s “casino building.” The 150-year-old business lost a bid to keep this spot; City Park awarded a 10-year lease to competitor Café du Monde.
Morning Call isn’t taking the loss sitting down — MC owner Bob Hennessey has cried foul, and has told the press he’s considering legal action against the urban park. On the other side, City Park says Morning Call (which will soon have no physical locations, as it closed its Metairie location in April) lost the bid fair and square, despite pledging the most money to the park.
