Celebrated author and Louisiana resident Ernest Gaines spoke during a Black History Month convocation Feb. 27 at Lusher Charter School. Gaines, born on a Pointe Coupee Parish plantation, wrote the Pulitzer Prize-nominated "A Lesson Before Dying" in 1993.
