A 16-year-old boy is accused of shooting another teen several times after trying to pull the victim from his bicycle at a Hollygrove intersection, according to New Orleans police.

Lokell Honor was booked Thursday (April 25) with aggravated battery and illegal use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence in connection with the April 20 shooting, which wounded another 16-year-old boy.

According to the NOPD, the victim was bicycling at 3:12 p.m. near Forshey and Leonidas streets when the shooter approached and tried to pull the victim from his bike.

The shooter then pulled a gun and began firing at the 16-year-old cyclist, hitting him three times. The gunman then ran toward Earhart Boulevard, police said.

The victim, who was found near a bicycle, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and listed in stable condition, according to a preliminary police report.

The NOPD did not disclose how detectives identified Honor as the gunman, but said he was arrested Thursday in Gentilly by officers with the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and U.S. Marshals Service.

He was booked into the Orleans Justice Center jail. A booking photo of Honor was not immediately available.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call NOPD 2nd District detectives at 504-658-6020.
