A man is accused of attempted murder in a 7th Ward shooting that wounded a 24-year-old man and a 3-year-old girl, the NOPD said Wednesday (April 24).
James R. Brown, 28, was booked Tuesday in connection with the April 6 shooting in the 1600 block of North Villere Street.
According to the NOPD, the gunfire broke out about 11 p.m., as the 24-year-old victim arrived on Villere Street to meet his cousin. He had just stepped out of the car when a gunman, later identified as Brown, opened fire.
An initial NOPD report said the 24-year-old was shot in the arm and leg, but police on Wednesday said he was shot in the arms. The 3-year-old girl, who was still seated in the car, was shot in her ankle.
A woman was also at the scene but was not injured by the gunfire, according to NOPD spokesman Aaron Looney.

Officers with the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Brown on Tuesday at a home in Gentilly.
Police did not describe how Brown was identified as a suspect but said a search of the Gentilly home turned up evidence linking Brown to the shooting.
He was booked into the Orleans Justice Center jail with three counts of attempted second-degree murder, along with charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal discharge of a weapon.
Additionally, Brown was arrested on open warrants for home invasion, battery on a dating partner involving child endangerment and simple criminal damage to property in connection with an incident in July.
His bond was set at $183,000, including $150,000 for the three attempted-murder counts, Orleans Parish court records show.
Anyone with additional information on the April 6 shooting is asked to call NOPD 3rd District detectives at 504-658-6030 or submit an anonymous tip to Crimestoppers by calling 504-822-1111.
