A man charged in a 2017 7th Ward homicide pleaded guilty Monday (April 29) to illegally possessing a firearm, and is expected to face trial this week in connection with the killing.
Tyrone Myles, 24, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of firearm and should be sentenced Tuesday. Criminal District Judge Laurie White said Myles’ sentence would be 20 years -- the maximum penalty for that crime.
His sentence could be enhanced, as Assistant District Attorney Jason Napoli said the state filed a bill alleging Myles is a two-time offender. A multiple bill hearing is scheduled Tuesday ahead of sentencing.
Myles is charged with second-degree murder in a Nov. 26, 2017, shooting in the 1900 block of North Rocheblave Street that killed 23-year-old Antoine Brumfield. Surveillance video shows Myles removing a gun from his waistband and running toward the scene, according to his arrest warrant.
Prosecutors charged Myles with illegal firearm possession and second-degree murder in the same indictment.

Two other men initially were arrested in the shooting -- including one whose drivers license was found at the homicide scene -- but the district attorney's office did not pursue charges against them.
Brumfield was the father of an 8-month-old daughter, and worked as a security guard on Bourbon Street. His brother described Brumfield as a “good little dude” who “never got in trouble.”
Jury selection in Myles’ trial on the second-degree murder charge is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
