Man shoves woman to the ground, steals her Jeep in Village de l’Est: NOPD

The carjacking occurred about 8:30 p.m. Easter Sunday (April 21, 2019), shortly after the woman arrived in the 5400 block of Grand Bayou Drive in the Village de l'Est area of New Orleans East, according to the NOPD.

A man pushed a 59-year-old woman to the ground and then took off in her Jeep on Easter Sunday (April 21) in Village de l’Est, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The carjacking occurred about 8:30 p.m., shortly after the woman arrived in the 5400 block of Grand Bayou Drive, police said.

She had just stepped out of her black Jeep Grand Cherokee when a white car pulled up and a man got out of the passenger side. He shoved the woman and then drove away in the Jeep, heading east on Grand Bayou Drive, according to a preliminary NOPD report.

The carjacking was one of three crimes reported by NOPD as major offenses logged from Sunday through early Monday.

Earlier Sunday, a male juvenile stole a hoverboard from a 5-year-old boy in the Desire neighborhood, police said.

The simple robbery occurred about 1:15 p.m., as the 5-year-old was riding the hoverboard near his home in the 3700 block of Benefit Street. A larger, “heavyset” male pushed the boy off the hoverboard and took it, the NOPD said.

Police also investigated an early Monday shooting in Hollygrove. Two men, ages 24 and 26, were shot while in their vehicle near Airline Highway and Eagle Street, causing them to crash the car. Both were taken to the hospital, one with several gunshot wounds and the other with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said.
