

A 27-year-old man carjacked a ride-share driver after she picked him up in the Pines Village area of New Orleans East early Thursday (April 25), New Orleans police said. The man struck the 26-year-old woman and ripped her clothes off before pulling her from the car.
Samuel Taylor, 27, was arrested and booked with carjacking and resisting an officer in connection to the attack that police said occurred around 12:55 a.m.
Police said the driver picked Taylor up near the intersection of North Villere Street and Esplanade Avenue. Once they arrived in the 4500 block of Shalimar Drive, Taylor grabbed the car keys and exited the car.
He tried to pull the driver out of the car, but was unsuccessful, police said. Then he demanded she get out of the car and started to strike her and rip off her clothes. Taylor pulled the driver out of the car and fled southbound in her car on Shalimar Drive, police said.
Police arrested Taylor at the intersection of Crowder Boulevard and Morrison Road. Bond information was not immediately available.

Earlier, a cyclist snatched a 77-year-old woman’s purse off her shoulder while she was walking down St. Charles Avenue with her husband Wednesday night (April 24), police said.
The simple robbery was reported in the 2200 block of St. Charles Avenue around 7:30 p.m., according to an initial police report. After grabbing the woman’s purse, the man fled on his bike.
Around the same time, seven women got out of a silver car in Algiers and started to attack a 28-year-old woman.
Laurinika Sterling, 29, is wanted after police suspect she cut the 28-year-old in her hand, toe and leg with a pocket knife. The 28-year-old woman was treated for her injuries at the scene in the 2200 block of Cobblestone Lane, police said.
NOPD also reported a shooting in Seabrook where three people — including two 15-year-old boys — were injured.
