New Orleans police are seeking the DNA for a “person of interest” in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Jerry Harris on March 28 in Central City. Detectives say they have obtained a warrant for a mouth swab from Quitman Hartford, 22.

Police said they found a man — later identified by the coroner’s office as Harris — lying next to a car near the intersection of Harmony and Prytania streets in the Garden District. Investigators believe the shooting happened 1.5 miles away in the 1500 block of Freret Street.

Hartford is not wanted in the homicide investigation, though detectives want to question him, police said.

Anyone with information on the shooting or the pictured person of interest is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Detective Marylou Agustin at 504-658-5300, or to call anonymously to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
