Man charged with murder after woman fatally shot on Bourbon Street
Louisiana State Police troopers and French Quarter Task Force officers detained Alexander Kirby, 33, at the scene. He was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the killing. A law enforcement source said Kirby was the woman’s ex-boyfriend.
After the shooting, police were investigating inside the Clover Grill, a 24-hour diner on the block, according to our news partners at WVUE Fox 8. Authorities also taped off the intersection of Bourbon and Dumaine streets outside the restaurant.
A paper sign was taped to the window of the Grill, notifying customers it was temporarily closed. Uncleared drinks were still on the counter of the dark diner as of 6 a.m., and orders from just after midnight were hanging for the kitchen. New Orleans police did not immediately comment how Clover Grill was related to the homicide investigation. (Update: A law enforcement source said the woman was shot in the restaurant’s courtyard.)
