Authorities in New Jersey have arrested the man accused of gunning down a fellow patron during an argument inside Metairie’s Pair of Dice Lounge.
Suspect booked with killing 1 person, wounding 2 and shooting dog: JPSO
Suspect Maurice Leach, 33, was taken into custody in Trenton, N.J.., said Capt. Jason Rivarde, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Leach was arrested May 30 by U.S. Marshals from the New Orleans Field Office and the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Leach will be booked with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice in the death of Michael Brown, 49.
Leach is accused of shooting Brown, a Mandeville father of two, inside the Pair of Dice Lounge, 4520 South Interstate 10 Service Road, Metairie, during the early morning hours of May 25.
Brown was at the bar about 4 a.m. when he and Leach began arguing. The Sheriff’s Office did not say what started the disagreement. Brown and Leach know one another, according to a witness, though it’s not clear how or how well.
Leach, known was “Marlow,” was a regular at the bar, according to an employee
Other patrons tried separating the two men once things got heated, but they continued to yell at each other from across the bar, authorities said. Leach then pulled a pistol from the waistband of his pants and shot Brown in the head, according to authorities. He then ran from the bar.
Leach was still in New Jersey and awaiting extradition to Jefferson Parish as of Saturday, Rivarde said.
