Rain chances begin to go up this weekend. Moisture will be increasing with storm chances increasing too. The higher rain chance looks to be Sunday, but stay weather aware.
A cold front approaches Monday and Tuesday. There is some potential that it could get hung up along the coast. If that happens rain chances may stay high for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If the front moves far enough offshore, we may notice a little drier air moving into the area. It is still far out, and subject to some changes.
The Mississippi River is high. It is still over 16 feet. There is some potential that it will reach the trigger point for closing the Spillway on July 24th. That trigger point is 15.5 feet. The Corps of Engineers is meeting Monday to look at latest forecast to make decisions on the Spillway. Right now it looks like the River in New Orleans will finally drop below 15 feet by July 30th. So far it's been over 15 feet for 159 days!
The Spillway has been open for the second time for 70 days.
