The Mississippi River is now 13.33 feet, and falling. There are 20 minor seepage points. The Corps of Engineers will continue inspecting the levee twice a week as long as the River is above 11 feet. It should drop below 11 feet sometime around August 22nd.
Dr. Phil Klotzbach updated his hurricane season forecast today. His forecast after July 31st: 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes. The forecast was increased because of Barry. Dr. Klotzbach points out that El Nino is weakening. El Nino causes strong upper level winds that can prevent tropical development. Sea surface temperatures are average. We continue to have strong upper level winds and dry air in the tropical Atlantic.
