A circa-1904 Victorian in the Garden District wants $1.75M - [Curbed New Orleans - All]

It’s gone from wedding venue to boarding house to luxurious single-family home

This home’s current owner likened its most recent renovation to a “makeover on a beautiful woman,” according to a feature by the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans. Built in 1904 as a home for judge Lawrence O’Donnell, his wife, and their six children,The Victorian double gallery home in the Garden District served as a wedding venue and boarding house before returning to use as a single-family home.

The five-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom manse was gutted and renovated in 2016, which is when the third floor was added. A 2016 update brought historically accurate brass, crystal, and porcelain hardware and custom paint to the interior. The new palette highlights the home’s egg-and-dart moldings, medallions, and 12-foot ceilings.

The first floor places a formal living area beside a stairwell in the front of the house. The rear includes an open kitchen and den, where exposed, pickled bricks and beams create a more casual feel. Caribbean pine floors are present throughout the home’s 4,831 square feet.

Upstairs, find five bedrooms and five bathrooms lined up along a side hall. The master bedroom suite features a sitting room, walk-in closet, and bathroom with a double vanity. The new-ish third floor includes a study, bedroom, and bathroom. Outside, a patio illuminated by gas lanterns and a brick fireplace provides an intimate place to gather, as do the porches and balconies.

The asking price is $1,750,000.
