Longtime Cafe Giovanni Chef Brings His Signature New Orleans Dishes to Metairie - [Eater New Orleans - All]

Chef Duke is back at it with Dab’s Bistro, now open

The longtime chef and owner of former French Quarter favorite Cafe Giovanni, Duke LoCicero, opened his new restaurant and bar in Metairie this week. In the works since spring, Dab’s Bistro brings LoCicero’s Southern Italian and Louisiana flavors to the neighborhood two years after closing his 26-year old Decatur Street fixture.

LoCicero (also known as Chef Duke) is reviving some of his signatures from Giovanni, like the popular ‘chef’s pick’ food flights and his famed fried oysters appetizer, plated on a “stained glass” pattern of five sauces. LoCicero (also known as Chef Duke) hopes that late-night weekend hours, expanded small plate options, and a strong bar program will fill a void in the New Orleans suburb.

The new restaurant takes over the former home of neighborhood cafe Cello’s (3401 N. Hullen St.), which closed in May after five years. Dab’s is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., for dinner on Tuesday and Wednesday from 5 p.m/. to 10 p.m., with late night hours from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
