The double shotgun home was built in the 1800s
Algiers Point might be the most Mayberry-esque neighborhood in New Orleans. That’s because of its small-town vibes, quaint collection of cafes and bars, paved levee trails, and neighborhood traditions (fireworks viewing, Christmas bonfires, and a summer concert series, to name a few). Algiers Point also has some of the lowest crime rates in Orleans Parish.
Situated on the West Bank, it’s a five-minute ferry ride across the Mississippi River from downtown New Orleans—and while that distance is a deterrent for some urbanites, it’s a boon for homeowners who prefer a little peace and quiet to go with their traditional New Orleans architecture.
You’ll find Eastlake Victorian and Craftsman-era residential buildings in abundance at prices lower than those of their downtown peers. Case in point: this circa-1800s double shotgun, which is a licensed bed-and-breakfast, is asking $550,000. The bed-and-breakfast license for “La Maison de la Musique” is included in the price.
Remodeled in 2014, the 2,485-square-foot home features a Maria Theresa crystal chandelier, ceiling medallion, crown molding, original pocket doors, wood floors, and 12-foot ceilings. A living room spans the entirety of the front, and most of the former double shotgun has been converted to a large single-family home. However, in the rear, one side of the former double houses a rental unit consisting of a living room with kitchenette, a bedroom, and a bathroom. This unit has its own separate side entrance. All in all, the home has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths.
