A Vibrant New Mexican Restaurant Fills the Former Boucherie Space in Carrollton - [Eater New Orleans - All]

Chilangos Bar & Grill, an expansion of Kenner’s Chilangos Seafood, is now open in the former Boucherie

Chilangos Seafood, a lively, casual Mexican spot in Kenner with a devoted neighborhood following has expanded to New Orleans with a new seafood-and-taco focused restaurant. Chilangos Bar & Grill opened Monday, October 28 in the former home of upscale neighborhood bistro Boucherie, 1506 S. Carrollton Avenue.

The family-run restaurant features a salsa bar — something there simply isn’t enough of in New Orleans — bright pink and blue walls, and a huge menu. The seafood focus runs throughout, with six ceviche and seafood cocktails, shellfish-laden soups (the 7 Mares is made with, you guessed it, seven types of seafood), and whole-fish tilapia and red snapper entrees. A Taco Tuesday special is bound to get crowded with $1 tacos and house tequila shots and margaritas “for her” for $5.99.

Proprietor Patricia Yanez and her family brought Chilangos to the Uptown area after eight years on Williams Boulevard in Kenner (that location remains open). Yanez founded Chilangos with then partner David Montes de Oca, a popular taco truck owner-turned- restaurant owner. When Yanez and Montes split up, Yanez kept Chilangos Seafood and Montes de Oca his other restaurant, Taqueria Chilangos. (Montes de Oca died suddenly in 2017, the same year his tacos won big at the inaugural Top Taco competition).

Chilangos Bar & Grill (1506 S. Carrollton Ave.) is open for lunch and dinner every day, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
