The DeFelice family sold the iconic New Orleans restaurant to car dealer Ray Brandt
Pascal’s Manale, among the oldest Italian restaurants in town and the birthplace of one of New Orleans’s most distinctive dishes, has been sold to new owners after 106 years in the same family, reports NOLA.com.
Founded in 1913 and in its fourth generation of family ownership, Manale’s may be best known for creating New Orleans-style barbecue shrimp, its Creole-Italian fare, and a beloved stand-up oyster bar.
Longtime proprietor Sandy DeFelice confirmed to NOLA.com yesterday that the family sold the Uptown restaurant to Ray Brandt, a local car dealership mogul with a dozen brands. DeFelice called it “the right time to turn the page in our lives and start a new chapter.” The Brandts’ nephew Carmen Provenzano, who spent 12 years working at the restaurant in the 1990’s and early 2000s and currently works for the dealership, will serve as Manale’s manager moving forward.
Pascale’s Manale will remain open, and members of the DeFelice family will be on hand to consult the Brandts through the transition.
