Storm Prediction Center gives us an enhanced risk severe storms Sunday. This includes hail, high winds and even long track tornadoes. The pressure gradient is going to cause high sustained winds outside of storms. Winds may be as high as 50 mph closer to the Lakefront. These winds will be capable of causing power outages.
The GFS Model has the stronger storms to the North of our area. The European model has strong storms moving across Southeast Louisiana including the South Shore. The timing is late afternoon into the evening. It has the stronger storms in the Metro by 6 or 7 pm.
The Mississippi River continues high. now 16.72 feet. 20 bays opened today on the Spillway. That brings the total to 70 bays, and a flow of 63,000 cubic feet per second flowing into the Spillway and into the Lake. Keep in mind that not only fresh water flows into the Lake, snakes and alligators may be an issue too! A friend saw a big gator swimming towards the Marconi Canal today.
