Where to find fest favorites from crawfish Monica to praline beignets for takeout or delivery
Over the decades, Jazz Fest has become an annually-anticipated event as much for its food as for music, particularly for New Orleans locals. With it canceled for 2020, the ritual of seeking out one’s favorite vendors will have to wait until next spring, but some of Jazz Fest’s most popular food is currently available via local pickup or delivery. Here’s how to get five classic Jazz Fest dishes to help keep the good times rolling from home.
Crawfish bread
Panaroma Foods is shipping whole loaves of its beloved crawfish, sausage, and shrimp breads to the entire US, and it even has a video on proper thawing and freezing practices. The company ships from its headquarters in Central Louisiana once a week on a rolling basis, with a promise that customers will receive orders by the Friday of the week after an order is placed. The loaves are only sold in packs, and Panaroma says there are four Jazz Fest-sized servings in each loaf. Order here.
Crawfish Monica
Big River Foods has collaborated with Cottage Catering to establish a pickup location at Mahony’s Po-boys in the French Quarter (901 Iberville St.) for its crawfish Monica, to take place over both Jazz Fest weekends. Order through cottagecatering.com (Cottage Catering’s crawfish strudel and white chocolate bread pudding is also available) to pick up between 3 and 7 p.m., April 24, 25, and 26 and May 1, 2, and 3. It’s also shipping bulk quantities of crawfish Monica nationally, and sells kits in local grocery stores (kajunkettle.com).
Meat pies
Mrs. Wheat’s savory meat pies — including Creole hot sausage, crawfish, and shrimp and andouille — are now available via online ordering for shipping at meatpies.com/shop. Sold in a four count, 12 count, 48 count, and in smaller-sized party platters.
Praline beignets
A combination of two of New Orleans’s favorite treats, praline beignets from Loretta’s Authentic Pralines are currently available every Friday via takeout at the Rampart Street restaurant. Call 504-944-7068 to place an order, and visit the site for items available to ship.
Soft shell crab po-boy
The two most popular vendors for soft shell crab po-boys at Jazz Fest currently have open restaurants — the newly-established Ajun Cajun on Oak Street Uptown and Galley Seafood in Metairie. Call Ajun Cajun at 504-866-7077 to order from the full menu, which includes other Jazz Fest favorites like shrimp yakisoba, the garlic beef ribeye po-boy, and cucumber seaweed salad.
