10% chance tropical development within 48 hours, and 70% chance development in 3-5 days. A broad area of low pressure expected to develop just North of the Bahamas. A subtropical depression or storm is likely to form this weekend. If it becomes a storm, the name will be Arthur. The system is forecast to move NE across the West Atlantic.
It is not unusual to have early development before June. We have had early development over the past 5 years. Hurricane Season begins June 1st and goes through November 30th. Storms and hurricanes are more likely to happen August, September and October. Dr. Phil Klotzbach is forecasting 16 named storms, 8 hurricanes and 4 major hurricanes. That is similar to what happened last year. Klotzbach is forecasting one more major storm than what we had last year.
