The earliest 16th and 17th named storms have formed in the Tropical Atlantic. Tropical Storm Paulette is driving NW 3 mph in the Central Atlantic. Max winds are 40 mph. At this time it is not forecast to become a hurricane. Wind shear and dry air is slowing intensification, but there has been a recent flare up of activity.
Rene is near the Cabo Verde Islands. Max winds are 40 mph. Moving WNW 12 mph. It is forecast to become a hurricane in 2-3 days. There will be an increase in wind shear later this week.
There are two other areas we are watching. 30% chance tropical development for a low SW of Bermuda. Forecast to move towards the Carolina's.
50% chance tropical development for a wave forecast to move off the Coast of Africa. Names up next: Sally and Teddy.
