- After a video of the scene at Tracey’s Original Irish Bar during Monday night’s Saints game circulated around New Orleans social media this week, New Orleans officials ordered the Irish Channel bar and restaurant closed on Wednesday, “until such time as the owner provides an operational management plan to the City which must include a viable solution to properly handle overcrowding.” The order follows the bar being issued a citation in May for crowds gathering on the first day bars were allowed to reopen in New Orleans. Before that, police were called to Tracey’s to break up crowds on St. Patrick’s Day, historically a gathering point for the holiday.

- After an unsuccessful attempt to open bars without meeting the governor’s criteria last week, Jefferson parish can reopen them Wednesday night, reports WWL. The release of data Wednesday by the Louisiana Department of Health data showed the parish now has two consecutive weeks of test positivity below five percent, allowing the parish to “opt in” to the move. JP council members prepared for the possibility earlier this week, calling a special meeting to draft a resolution that would allow it to opt in upon release of the data. Bars can open at 25 percent capacity for up to 50 customers for table service only.
- Next door in New Orleans, a city spokesperson said yesterday that some restrictions could be eased late next week. While it’s unclear what that might entail, New Orleans has remained in phase 2 while the rest of the state proceeded to phase 3, allowing restaurants to open at 75 percent capacity and parishes that meet positivity rate benchmarks to open bars at 25 percent capacity. Additionally, New Orleans currently has a ban on the sale of to-go alcohol from bars or restaurants, a restriction not implemented elsewhere in the state.
- Parking and sidewalk use rules loosened by the city in order to expand outdoor dining options in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic will continue through the end of the year. New Orleans allowed restaurants to use private parking areas for additional outdoor tables and obtain sidewalk-use permits free of charge for the same in May, saying the temporary rules would continue through September 30. Last month, the city launched a phased program to expand outdoor dining further, starting with mini-grants to restaurants to build or improve outside dining areas followed by a plan to turn parking lanes into designated dining areas.
- Cochon Butcher’s beloved sandwiches and charcuterie are now available for nationwide shipping on Goldbelly, so fans can skip the line that sometimes wraps around onto N. Peters. A “Pic Mac” dinner kit, the muffaletta, a charcuterie box, a “Petite Cajun” grilling dinner, and a grand boucherie meat package are available for home delivery.
