Prince second-line: PETA urges no doves
This evening's Prince second line has a few minor tweaks.
The planned release of doves before the second-line is canceled at the urging of PETA. Prince was a huge supporter of PETA and a vegan-general animal advocate overall. Instead of a dove release, organizers are thinking of a poetry readings or purple confetti.
The start time has moved to 6 p.m. from 5:30 p.m.
DJ Captain Charles will be spinning at Ooh Poo Pah Doo Bar. James Andrews and the Crescent City Allstars will play.

La. SPCA helps shelter animals displaced by Sandy | San Francisco Chronicle
The Louisiana SPCA says in a news release that it has sent a team of staffers and volunteers to the emergency boarding facility established in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn by the ASPCA with help from a $500,000 grant from TV personality Rachael Ray.

When residents fled the city, many left their pets behind. Today, those animals and their offspring are roaming the streets in overwhelming numbers.
The pets that didn't die in the storm were left to fend for themselves. In the end, over 600,000 animals were killed or stranded because of Hurricane Katrina. In addition, many houses that sustained 6 to 15 feet of water were uninhabitable after the storm and were abandoned. Hurricane Katrina didn't introduce stray dogs to New Orleans, but it certainly accelerated the problem. Today, much of the city looks as though it has not been touched since 2005, and the abandoned sections of New Orleans have been taken over by weeds, blight, and wild dogs.

Losing a pet is a terrifying experience. Below are a few tips to help you find your pet:
- File a lost report and submit a photo of the lost animal at local animal shelters. (Photos typically cannot be returned.)
- Go to animal shelters to look for your pet.
- Actively look around your neighborhood. Dawn and dusk are the most active times for lost pets.
- Post "lost pet" notices in your neighborhood and inform your neighbors.
- Put a "Lost" notice in your local newspaper.
- Notify your area veterinary clinics.
- Leave food and water outside for your pet with an article of your clothing or a bed your pet used.
