Zydeco music legend Roy Carrier has died. According to his son, Chubby, Carrier died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday at Opelousas General Hospital due to complications from lung cancer. He recorded nine CDs in his career, including four with Right on Rhythm Records of Washington...

Rosie Ledet, Zydeco performer will not be charged | Acadia & Allen Parishes | KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana
It is nearly three months since 7 News reported on the body of a newborn baby found in Allen Parish. Authorities believe the baby was delivered by zydeco performer Rosie Ledet. While the baby's body was found in Allen Parish, it was believed to have been born in Acadia Parish.

At the Landmark Canal Place Cinema Theatre, the producers of "Katrina Artistically Revisited", Patty Lee and Armand St. Martin, offer a respectful and unique artistic multi-media experience, free to the public. This 2009 grassroots event includes original Katrina songs by Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes, Jay Chevalier and Armand St. Martin.Barnes, a blues/zydeco/Afro-Louisiana music recording artist, has entertained in over 35 countries, and appears in over 13 national commercials, feature length films and documentaries, and will perform his powerful song, "Didn't It Rise". Chevalier, a Cajun-music recording artist and member of the National Rockabilly Hall of Fame, who is also the Official State of Louisiana Troubadour, will feature his Official Hurricane Recovery Song "Come Back To Louisiana". Roots Rock 'n' Roll music recording artist, St. Martin, who has served up original local music in venues ranging from the Superdome and Jazz Fest to the Ritz-Carlton-New Orleans, will showcase his "Orleans Lullaby" off his new CD "Katrina Anthem". "These songs inspire us to never forget how our lives were changed forever by Katrina and to move forward with hope while remembering those who perished," says producer Patty Lee.Katrina Artistically Revisited also features a short DVD film, "Stillness. . . the aftermath of Katrina" by photographer-producer Dennis Couvillion, with a moving soundtrack by Dean Dupuy, Ramsey Mcclean and Armand St. Martin. "Stillness" is a poignant story told through the eyes of Couvillion with his award-winning photographs taken while traversing the flood-damaged neighborhoods of New Orleans after Katrina. An additional program highlight is a photo film-essay on the big screen by the New Orleans Kid Camera Project headed up by Executive Directors, Joanna Rosenthal and Ariya Martin, with a live music accompaniment by Armand St. Martin. This project is "an unfiltered view of New Orleans through the eyes of its youth, and was created to address the psychological and emotional impacts of Hurricane Katrina." Additionally, a "Trailer" will be shown for "Katrina's Children," a documentary, courtesy of Executive Producer of the film, Richard Colton. This represents a shortened version of this documentary which is a "multi-faceted portrait of 18 New Orleans children, told through their eyes about the impact of Hurricane Katrina on their lives after returning home." Photographs on screen will include Katrina photos by award-winning photographers Mark Sindler of the Louisiana State Museum, Donn Young, formerly the official photographer for the Port of New Orleans, as well as by Katrina archivist and writer, Patty Lee.
