Audubon Nature Institute announces free entry on Wednesdays for locals - [Curbed New Orleans - All]

Its new program aims to increase aquarium, zoo, insectarium, and planetarium access for Orleans Parish residents

Today the Audubon Institute announced its new Community Connect program, which gives Orleans Parish residents free admission to its facilities. Every Wednesday in 2019, Orleans Parish residents get free entry for themselves and up to four guests when they show a valid, government-issued ID.

Free admission rotates between the Audubon Zoo, Aquarium, Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, and Louisiana Nature Center (planetarium) from Wednesday to Wednesday. On Wednesday, January 16, the Audubon Zoo offers free admission, and the planetarium is free the week after that. The complete 2019 schedule is available here.

Free Audubon Institute access isn’t limited to Wednesdays, though. If you have a library card or a SNAP card, you can get in free any time. Orleans Parish residents who are part of the SNAP program get free access to Audubon Institute facilities year-round when they present their SNAP card and ID. Orleans Parish library card holders can check out Audubon Institute passes.

“We are thrilled that the Audubon Nature Institute has partnered with us to join our Museum Pass program,”  said New Orleans public library system executive director Charles Brown in a press release. ”We are continually working to expand the amount of educational, informational, and entertaining programs, products, and services that we offer and I know that this strategic partnership will greatly benefit our community.”
