Authorities arrest 43-year-old man in Baton Rouge in connection with Pines Village homicide

Alfred Simmons was booked with second-degree murder after police say he fatally shot a woman in the head on April 18.

A 43-year-old man was arrested in Baton Rouge Thursday (April 25) in connection with a homicide in Pines Village, New Orleans police said.

Alfred Simmons was booked with second-degree murder after police say he shot a woman in the head on April 18. The woman, who authorities have yet to publicly identify, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad, a unit that tracks down people who are wanted for serious crimes, worked with U.S. State Marshals, NOPD’s Homicide Unit and the Baton Rouge Police Department Homicide Division to locate and arrest Simmons, according to an NOPD news release.

A week prior to Simmons’ arrest, police arrived at the scene in the 5000 block of Dwyer Road and found the woman in the middle of the road suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
