Two women were attacked and threatened by two armed strangers in the French Quarter early Tuesday (April 30), New Orleans police said.
The women, 43 and 35, were walking in the 900 block of Governor Nicholls Street around 12:50 a.m. when the two men approached them, police said. One of the men tried to grab the 43-year-old woman’s purse, but when she refused to let it go, he kicked her to the ground and dragged her on the ground for approximately one to three feet, police said in an initial report. The other man demanded both women’s property while holding a gun and threatening to shoot the 35-year-old woman.
The second man tried to take the 35-year-old’s purse and then kicked the 43-year-old in her head two times, police said. Then, both men fled with the 43-year-old’s purse.
Police also reported the following crimes between Monday (April 29) and Wednesday (May 1):
Warrant issued for 29-year-old man accused of robbing woman in Uptown
A 29-year-old man arrived at a 34-year-old woman’s house in the 2200 block of Soniat Street and demanded money that he said she owed him around 12:45 p.m. Monday, according to an initial police report. Police said the woman “felt intimidated” and went to an ATM to withdraw cash. The man then took money from her and fled.
NOPD issued an arrest warrant for Cleo Williamson Jr. in connection with the simple robbery.
Six days earlier, police reported a domestic aggravated burglary in the same block. In a preliminary report, police reported that a man broke into a 34-year-old woman’s home and demanded money from her before they both went to a nearby ATM. It was not immediately clear if Williamson was wanted in connection to the April 23 robbery.
Man strikes 42-year-old woman before stealing cell phone in New Orleans East
Hugo Xitamul, 34, was “berating” a 42-year-old woman in the 13800 block of Chef Menteur Highway around 9:45 a.m. Monday before he grabbed her cell phone, struck her in the head and then fled, police said.
Xitmaul is wanted by NOPD in connection to the simple robbery.
3 men rob 20-year-old man in Gert Town
A 20-year-old man was sitting in his van in the 1000 block of Telemachus Street around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when three men opened the driver’s door and placed a gun to his head, police said.
They took the 20-year-old’s belongings from the van and then ran away.
2 strangers rob 2 women at gunpoint in 7th Ward
Two armed men wearing all black clothing approached two women, 44 and 27, while they were walking in the 2200 block of Pauger Street around 2:45 p.m., police said. The men demanded the women’s belongings and the women complied. Then the men fled.
Two 19-year-old men stab each other several times in Central City
A 19-year-old man started to fight another 19-year-old man’s brother near the intersection of Simon Bolivar Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The two 19-year-old’s, both armed with knives, then started fighting and both were stabbed several times in the back, police said. Both were transported to the hospital.
31-year-old man arrested in connection to robbery on St. Charles Avenue
A 33-year-old woman was standing in the 2100 block of Saint Charles Avenue around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday with her wallet in her hand when a 31-year-old man snatched her wallet and ran down Josephine Street, police said.
Owen Williams was arrested and booked Wednesday (May 1) with two counts of purse snatching, jail records show.
Police also reported four shootings in three days.
