While bars are closed for on-premise consumption, Eater is tracking those offering curbside service
Last weekend, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards announced a surprise statewide executive order closing businesses licensed as bars for on-premise consumption, effective July 13. Those same businesses are allowed to offer curbside service, however, regardless of whether or not they serve food. The new rule, in addition to a statewide mask mandate and a reduced limit on indoor gatherings, will be in place until July 24, if not longer.
Many of New Orleans’s locally-loved bars, which were permitted to resume operations on June 13, have shut down again as a result. Eater has so far confirmed with Ms. Mae’s, Lost Love Lounge, Good Friends Bar, Mayfair Lounge, and Milan Lounge, among others, that they are not planning to switch to curbside service, instead closing entirely for the time being. French Quarter tourist destination Pat O’Brien’s has closed again until further notice as well, weeks after reopening for the first time since March.
Still others are attempting the transformation, providing a lower-risk way for New Orleanians to revisit their good friend the go-cup, that mainstay that was briefly paused at the outset of the stay at home order. Here, Eater tracks New Orleans bars that are currently offering curbside service. Since we know homemade cocktails are getting tiresome, do your part to keep these spots alive — wear a mask, socially distance, and tip extremely well. This list will continue to be updated.
