Rain chances begin to go up Friday into the Weekend [ Local Stories]

It is the peak of hurricane season and it sure looks like it in the Atlantic Basin. There are four areas of interest and two tropical storms. Tropical storm Paulette is now stronger with 65 mph winds, and is forecast to be a Cat 2 hurricane when it impacts Bermuda Monday. Rene is weaker with 45 mph winds. it has been dealing with wind shear. Now it is not forecast to become a hurricane. There are two areas of interest near the Coast of Africa. One has a high chance tropical development and will likely become a depression in the next few days. Models indicate it will move west across the Atlantic and may move into the Caribbean. This will be one to monitor. The next name up is Sally. Of course we are watching the area of disorganized rain and storms over the Bahamas with a 50% chance tropical development when it moves into the Gulf of Mexico. Lately there has been an increase in rain and storms near Cat Island and Long Island.

Our concern will simply be the increase in moisture and the increase in rain chances. Right now models are not bullish on a big developing storm. They are simply showing moisture increasing. Add in some heating, and rain chances will increase. Will have to watch for the potential for locally heavy rain.
