Both the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the New Orleans Police Department will conduct sobriety checkpoints at undisclosed locations on Thursday (May 2).
The Jefferson Parish checkpoint, which will also check seatbelts, will be on the east bank and is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to Capt. Jason Rivarde, spokesman for the department.
The New Orleans checkpoint will be in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, according to a news release from the department.
The checkpoints are part of an effort to prevent alcohol-related injuries and fatalities. Intoxicated or impaired drivers will be arrested.
Motorists are reminded to buckle up and avoid driving while under the influence of alcohol or any other substance that could lead to impairment.
