More storms Thursday [ Local Stories]
We had severe thunderstorm warnings and a tornado warning Wednesday Night. 8:48 pm Wednesday night reports of wind damage in Laplace. There was roof damage and utility poles down. It was a possible tornado. 9:14 pm there was wind damage in New Sarpy with trees and power lines down. 9:18 pm in Luling trees and power lines were downed.
We also had reports of flooding in Algiers and Gretna. The Flood Advisory was in effect until 10:30 pm. Rain is diminishing as we go into the overnight hours, but more rain is forecast Thursday with the potential for locally heavy rain.
Rain chances go down Friday into the weekend. It's about a 20% chance. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s.

Cooler in morning [ Local Stories]
Rainfall was significant in the Metro Wednesday morning between 5am and 9:30 am. Not everyone got heavy rain though. .08" fell at Slidell, .01" fell at Belle Chasse, .08" fell at Bogalusa and .49" fell at Gulfport. So what happened? We had copious amounts of moisture in the air. The Moisture was left over from Cristobal. We had strong winds aloft that split right over our area. That causes air to rise. Storms broke out and trained across the same area. 5.84" fell at Gentilly Terrace, 5.27" fell at Florida Avenue, 4.26" fell Warehouse District, 4.63" fell at Lake Vista, 2.25" fell at Gretna and 1.86" fell at Chalmette.

Not much of a cool down overnight [ Local Stories]
Cristobal is now well to the North. We had rainbands in the area today, but they are beginning to lift north too. Strong south wind overnight caused about a 3 foot storm surge on the Northshore. Strong North Wind Sunday caused about a 3 foot storm surge on the South Shore at the Lakefront.
Some of the area got heavy rainfall. Doppler indicated 7 inches near Chalmette, close to 4" at Harvey and 5.5" Gretna. Doppler indicated about 3" fell on the Northshore. Doppler indicated 6" to 10.4" on the Mississippi Coast.

BRG Hospitality Taps Longtime West Bank Thai Restaurant for Next Project - [Eater New Orleans - All]

BRG Hospitality is partnering with Gretna’s Banana Blossom for a new Uptown restaurant
Banana Blossom Thai Cafe, a family-run gem that’s been serving contemporary Thai food on the West Bank for a decade, is partnering with BRG Hospitality for a new Uptown restaurant, reports Ian McNulty. The as-yet unnamed establishment will take over the space formerly home to Warbucks, a BRG (formerly Besh Restaurant Group) project that closed last summer after just eight months.
Owner Jimmy Cho opened Banana Blossom in a Gretna strip mall in 2009, relocating to its current, bigger home two years ago. On Wednesday, Banana Blossom’s Facebook page showed a photo of Cho and BRG founding owner John Besh at the West Bank restaurant with a caption reading, “our new regular customer.”

Cho told McNulty that while the restaurant will focus on Thai cooking it will be different from Banana Blossom — “more of what you’d have if you came to my mother’s house.” BRG chief executive officer Shannon White told McNulty that further details will be announced “after Mardi Gras.”
Besh’s restaurant group was renamed BRG Hospitality two years ago after dozens of reports of sexual misconduct within the company and a very public split from Saba chef Alon Shaya. Besh stepped down as CEO amid the scandal, but as of November 2018 remained an owner in the group that operates seven restaurants in New Orleans.
The first restaurant to open under the rebranded company’s portfolio was Warbucks, a ‘skate-inspired’, modern comfort food spot led by chef Todd Pulsinelli. Since its closure in July, BRG has opened a second location of Pizza Domenica in Mid City.

Turmeric is open in Gretna, joining New Orleans’s small number of Indian restaurants
A new restaurant in Gretna has joined New Orleans’s remarkably small number of options for Indian cuisine, offering a massive menu of kebabs, masala, curry, and biryani. Turmeric opened late last month in the former longtime home of Red Palace Chinese on the Westbank Expressway.
According to NOLA.com, Turmeric is the first restaurant from business partners Sandip Chavan and Vaibhav Chavan (no relation). Open for lunch and dinner and offering the tried-and-true lunch buffet, the long menu covers a full range of Indian specialties, from naan to galub jamun (a fried dessert) to mango lassi. It’s affordable as well, with appetizers like samosas and chicken wings all under $6, with a tandoori mix grill and fish tikki the two most expensive entrees, at $18 and $16, respectively.
Included in the handful of other Indian restaurants in New Orleans are longtime Uptown buffet Nirvana, Marigny cafe Silk Road, and Metairie’s Taj Mahal. The last major addition to the city’s Indian cuisine scene, Saffron Nola, has become a top dining destination in New Orleans since opening in 2017.

A dozen of the best spots to get what New Orleanians call a Vietnamese po-boy
Getting a decent banh mi in the New Orleans area once meant driving to the Westbank. And while Gretna may still reign as the locus of authentic Vietnamese, the banh mi gap between the two sides of the Mississippi has narrowed. For banh mi served on airy French-style bread (the two principal New Orleans bakeries being Dong Phuong in New Orleans East and Terrytown’s Hi-Do); a never-ending variety of centerpieces; and a heap of pickled carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, and chiles, check out one of the spots below.
Worth noting: Track food truck Saigon Slim’s location on social media to find its excellent lemongrass chicken. pork, and house duck pate banh mi.
