'Treme's' Wendell Pierce to deliver Loyola's unified commencement address | Loyola University New Orleans

Award-winning actor Wendell Pierce will address Loyola University New Orleans’ Class of 2011 during its unified commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14, at 9:45 a.m. in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The star of HBO’s “Treme” series will also receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters during commencement exercises. HBO's Treme coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray


Treme is coming to DVD and Blu-ray. The 4 disc DVD & Blu-ray collections includes the season’s first 10 episodes, including bonus features, behind-the-scenes "The Making of Treme,” “Treme: Beyond Bourbon Street”, a guide to the songs featured on the show and audio commentaries.

Treme to be available on DVD and Blu-ray (Warner Home Video / HBO) on March 29, 2011. The HBO show is an American television drama series created by David Simon and Eric Overmyer. It takes its name from Tremé, a neighborhood in the city of New Orleans. The series begins three months after Hurricane Katrina where the residents of New Orleans, including musicians, chefs, Mardi Gras Indians, and ordinary New Orleanians try to rebuild their lives, their homes and their unique culture in the aftermath of the 2005 hurricane.

A free conference looking at how well residents and newcomers alike have been welcomed back in the last five years and what still needs to be done.

Part One: Welcoming Back Our Own
  • Allison Plyer with the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center will present key findings on the recovery of New Orleans.
  • Jarvis DeBerry, a columnist with The Times Picayune, will discuss how New Orleans has welcomed residents, especially the poor, elderly, and people of color.
  • Workshops to follow

Part Two: Welcoming Newcomers
  • Martin Gutierrez, the Executive Director of Neighborhood & Community Services of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, will give an overview of the experience of immigrant workers coming to New Orleans after Katrina and how well they have been received.

Creole Soul in Mid-City at Neyow's | wwltv.com
