New Orleans schools training students for burgeoning digital media field | NOLA.com
At least two local colleges are preparing students to enter the digital media field as Louisiana draws more businesses that perform post-production work for the film and entertainment industry. Delgado Community College launched a Digital Media Education Center in June to help train people in the growing industry. And the University of New Orleans Department of Film, Theater and Communication Arts says enrollment in its program has grown during the past decade.

Landrieu Announces More Than $6.8M for Six La. Historically Black Colleges and Universities
United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., announces that six schools in Louisiana received more than $6.8 million as a part of the U.S. Department of Education's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU
) Institutional Aid Program."I have long supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities and fought to provide them with the resources they need to build up their facilities and academic programs," said Sen. Landrieu. "Louisiana has a rich tradition of strong HBCUs. The funding awarded today will allow these schools to continue to grow, both physically and academically to provide a better education for their students."
The purpose of the HBCU Program is to provide financial assistance to establish or strengthen academic resources, financial management, endowments and physical plants to enhance these academic institutions.
The following HBCUs that received grants from the U.S. Department of Education:
- Dillard University will receive $863,050
- Grambling State University will receive $1.2 million
- Southern University and A&M College will receive nearly $1.6 million
- Southern University at Shreveport will receive $946,102
- Southern University at New Orleans will receive $1 million
- Xavier University will receive more than $1.1 million

Music Rising @musicrising & Gibson Foundation, partner for Tulane curriculum on Gulf Coast musical heritage
Music Rising, an award winning initiative co-founded in 2005 by U2's the Edge, legendary producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz announced a $1 million program in partnership with Tulane University to develop a college curriculum that will provide a permanent, comprehensive and definitive study of the musical heritage of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. The Music Rising program is administered by the Gibson Foundation.
Music Rising has worked closely with Nick Spitzer, professor of anthropology and American studies and creator of Tulane's public radio program American Routes in creating the connection with Tulane. The curriculum for the program on music and culture of the Gulf Coast will be implemented at Tulane and available to other universities through web and print materials. In addition to drawing from field, studio and live interviews, programs and performances of the American Routes Collection, the curriculum will draw upon the resources of the William Ransom Hogan Archive of New Orleans Jazz as well as the Maxwell Music Library, the Louisiana Collection, the Southern Institute and the New Orleans Gulf South Center, all housed at Tulane...
