What is a domain name? From Wikipedia:
Domain names are often seen in analogy to real estate in that domain names are foundations on which a website can be built, and the highest quality domain names, like sought-after real estate, tend to carry significant value, usually due to their online brand-building potential, use in advertising, search engine optimization, and many other criteria.

A few companies have offered low-cost, below-cost or even free domain registration with a variety of models adopted to recoup the costs to the provider. These usually require that domains be hosted on their website within a framework or portal that includes advertising wrapped around the domain holder's content, revenue from which allows the provider to recoup the costs. Domain registrations were free of charge when the DNS was new. A domain holder may provide infinite number of subdomains in their domain. For example, the owner of example.org could provide subdomains such as foo.example.org and foo.bar.example.org to interested parties.

Many desirable domain names are already assigned and users must search for other acceptable names, using Web-based search features, or WHOIS and dig operating system tools. Many registrars have implemented domain name suggestion tools which search domain name databases and suggest available alternative domain names related to keywords provided by the user.

The business of resale of registered domain names is known as the domain aftermarket. Various factors influence the perceived value or market value of a domain name.

Tipitina's could be sold as owner faces lawsuits; musical acts' checks [ WWL - Local]

The name of the potential buyers has not been disclosed and it's unclear what their plans for the club would be if they purchase it.

A well-placed source tells WWL-TV a deal is in the works to sell Tipitina’s, perhaps the most venerable music venue in a city renowned for live music.

The name of the potential buyers has not been disclosed and it’s unclear what their plans for the club would be.

The negotiations come as Tipitina’s owner of 22 years, Roland Von Kurnatowski, faces a raft of lawsuits claiming he bilked investors and has skipped out on debts totaling at least $2.8 million.

Tipitina's is a music venue located at the corner of Napoleon Avenue and Tchoupitoulas Street in Uptown New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.

Local music enthusiasts opened the venue on January 14, 1977. The name was inspired by a well-known song, "Tipitina", by Professor Longhair who also performed there until his death in 1980. Before adopting use of "Tipitina's" as its name, the facility was known as "The 501 Club," in reference to its street address (501 Napoleon Avenue). Tipitina's stands as one of the best-known clubs in New Orleans. The building itself was constructed in 1912, and prior to becoming Tipitina's, it served as a gambling house, gymnasium, and brothel.

Hundreds of thousands of Jazz Fest fans equals hundreds of millions of dollars spent in the city | WDSU

Music fans are making camp in New Orleans this week for the 47th annual Jazz Fest, presented by Shell. In 2015, over 460,000 festival fans packed the fairgrounds for Jazz Fest. With the great weather we've had this weekend, 2016 may bring in even more. And the sea of people is bringing in a wave of green.

“We are talking about an economic impact of well over $300 million,” said Mark Romig, president and CEO of New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corp. “You’ve got great weather. You’ve got great music, great food, great art, and it's just one of those mainstays of our economic calendar for the year.”

Ace Hotel plans to add New Orleans location | New Orleans City Business

A project underway to redevelop a former office building downtown into a new hotel property will open next year under the Ace Hotel brand, the company announced Tuesday.

The Portland, Oregon hotel chain confirmed it would  open a 234-room Ace Hotel in the nine-story Art Deco office building at 600 Carondelet St. A $34 million construction project began last fall and is expected to wrap up in early 2016.

The project is being developed by the Domain Companies, which is also building the $250 million South Market District project nearby. Domain purchased the 136,000-square-foot building and an adjacent parking lot in 2013 for $5.5 million and announced development of an unnamed hotel soon after.

How many new restaurants in New Orleans will survive? | NOLA.com

In 2015 at least 28 restaurants have opened in New Orleans. And we're only halfway through the year.  In 2014, 60 new restaurants opened and only five of them are closed:

That means that 92 percent of 2014's new restaurants have survived.

Academic studies have shown that 26 percent of new restaurants typically close in the first year. By the third year, 59 percent are gone.

Clearly, New Orleans restaurateurs are beating the odds.

Over the past decade, those of us who closely watch restaurants have been amazed by how many have opened and how few have closed.

New Orleans' Euclid Records is more than just a record store | St Louis Today

Weber doesn’t mean to take anything away from other New Orleans stores; he says the city is full of great ones. “They tend to be very niche in a lot of ways,” Weber says. “Domino (Sound Record Shack) is great and small and well-curated, the place you send diehard music fans to. Louisiana Music Factory does a great job mostly focusing on regional and local stuff.”  Weber also sees his Euclid Records as a cultural center, common of record stores nowadays.

New Orleans Rolling in Cash Sees Rebirth: Real Estate | Bloomberg

Chad Chenier/Ekistics Inc. via Bloomberg
Sean Cummings has developed 18 New Orleans projects, including condominiums, hotels and luxury lofts with floor-to-ceiling windows at a former rice-processing plant in a gentrifying neighborhood. Up next: a residential complex planned for a weed-choked lot currently home to an abandoned school bus. This year through May, commercial real estate transactions in the Big Easy totaled $424.7 million, up 41 percent from the $301.1 million in all of 2012, according to New York-based Real Capital Analytics Inc.
