Low-income residents being ousted from New Orleans' American Can Co. affordable-housing complex | The Advocate


The Orleans Avenue complex, got generous public financing in exchange for setting aside some units for low-and moderate-income residents.   But with the complex's affordable-housing agreement set to expire in January, dozens of residents have been told to clear out — presumably to make way for higher-end tenants paying much higher rents. For many of those residents, who are largely on fixed incomes, disabled or elderly and who include a 95-year-old woman, it’s not clear where they will go.

Eight companies vying to redevelop Six Flags site‎ | WVUE-TV

The Landrieu administration said Monday that eight companies are vying to redevelop the site of the former Six Flags Amusement Park in New Orleans East. "We received a mix of proposals seeking to develop the former park site into an amusement park, a water park, a film [company] back lot, a retail outlet shopping center,” said Aimee Quirk, chief economic development advisor to the mayor. Saints alive! The Big Easy is looking great — time to pay a visit

ALL things considered, these are pretty good days for New Orleans. The Saints are owning the NFC (8-0!). The fall weather’s fine, and is supposed to stay fine. (Well, at least now that the deadly Ida has been downgraded to a weak tropical storm, aiming at Florida.)

Hungry? There are approximately 1,000 restaurants open in New Orleans as of a couple of months ago — that’s a couple hundred more than there were before Katrina. The Quarter’s bustling, getting there’s fairly affordable. Speaking of, have you seen those hotel rates?
