Stephen Funchess, 19, of the 8700 block of Sheldon Street in Metairie, was booked Friday (May 10) with aggravated battery and use of a firearm in connection with drug-related activity, according to an arrest report.

Funchess is accused in a May 1 shooting in the 8400 block of Milan Street in Metairie. A deputy dispatched to the area just before 3p.m. to check on reports of gunfire found the 21-year-old victim lying on the ground in front of a residence.

The man had been shot in the thigh, according to authorities. He was taken to University Medical Center in New Orleans. His condition was not available Monday (May 13).

Investigators identified Funchess, who lives nearby, as a suspect in the case, authorities said. He was taken into custody Thursday at a home in the 400 block of North Laurel Street in Metairie.

At the time of his arrest, Funchess was wanted on a Jefferson Parish attachment for missing a court date related to a drug possession case, according to court records.

Funchess was being held Monday at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna. Bond on the charges related to the shooting was set at $200,000. He was being held without bond on the earlier drug charges.
